Moca Chain Launches Mainnet, Targeting AI Agent Identity in Web3
The mainnet's rollout includes the activation of its core product layer, dubbed AIR, which focuses on identity, payments, and loyalty functionalities. Moca Network reports a current base of 3.3 million AIR accounts, signaling an existing user engagement prior to the full mainnet deployment. The stated goal extends far beyond this initial count, with Animoca Brands estimating an addressable user base of 700 million individuals reachable through its extensive portfolio and partner network.
This launch marks a significant ecosystem milestone, albeit arriving approximately nine months later than its initial target. The project was first announced in June 2025, with a testnet slated for the same quarter and a mainnet expected by Q4 of that year. Despite the delay, Moca Network leadership emphasized the long-term vision, with Kenneth Shek, managing director of Moca Network, describing the launch as “a foundation, not a finish line.”
The delay itself highlights the complexities inherent in building foundational Web3 infrastructure, particularly for a network designed to integrate with established enterprise and consumer platforms. Moca Chain's architecture is built to facilitate verifiable credentials for Know Your Customer (KYC) processes and agent delegation, positioning its native MOCA token as both a utility and governance asset driving broader crypto adoption.
A robust roster of initial partners is already integrated with the Moca Chain ecosystem, spanning diverse sectors. These collaborators include prominent names such as SK Planet, Biletinial, Oyunfor, Open Campus, OneFootball, Automobili Lamborghini, Inveo Kripto, Plume, and Nansen. This broad spectrum of partnerships underscores the network’s ambition to establish digital identity as a cross-industry standard, facilitating secure interactions across consumer platforms, fintech, loyalty programs, and agentic commerce applications.
The strategic importance of Moca Chain lies in its explicit focus on digital identity for AI agents, a burgeoning area within Web3 that anticipates a future where autonomous programs interact and transact with verifiable personas. While many existing internet identity systems were primarily designed for human interaction, Moca Chain aims to provide the underlying verifiable credentials necessary for AI agents to operate securely and transparently within decentralized environments, a crucial step for preventing bot-related fraud and ensuring accountability.
Co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, Yat Siu, has previously articulated the inefficiencies of current digital identity models, which often trap users within siloed platforms. The Moca Chain initiative seeks to break down these barriers, creating a more open and interoperable system where verified identities can move freely, enhancing competition among service providers and empowering users with greater control over their digital presence.
However, the official release concerning the mainnet launch notably omits several key operational metrics. Details such as the number of credentials issued since its beta phase, the full list and operational status of its validator set, and the specific fee structures remain undisclosed. Furthermore, comprehensive regulatory and compliance specifics for various jurisdictions have not been fully clarified, which could impact the network's adoption trajectory, particularly among institutional partners.
These missing details present a set of open questions regarding the immediate scalability and regulatory adherence of the new network. As Moca Chain embarks on its journey beyond the foundational launch, the coming months will reveal how effectively it can transparently address these aspects and translate its ambitious vision for AI-native digital identity into widespread, practical utility across the Web3 landscape.
